Marisa Patti, 18 years old, has been a proud and active member of the Colts Neck Dance and Performing Arts Academy for the past 15 years. In addition to taking weekly technique classes in ballet, pointe, lyrical, jazz, and tap, she has participated in the studio’s Raindance Competition Company for the past 10 years competing both as a soloist and in a group. She has been truly inspired by so many of the dedicated instructors and fellow dancers over the years. Marisa hopes she has also been an inspiration to others through her participation over the past seven years in the studio’s Work / Study Assistant Teacher Program.

Marisa is currently a senior at Howell High School where she was accepted into the Freehold Performing Arts Academy for dance since freshman year. This is a unique program that combines conservatory type training in ballet, jazz, and modern with a rigorous academic program. Over the past four years she has branched out as a choreographer. Her work as well as her dancing has been featured in annual school shows such as Eve of Dance and Eve of Choreography. Marisa has also been on the school’s Varsity Dance team for the past four years and is currently the Dance Team Captain. In addition to football games and basketball games, her hard work as captain has enabled the team to perform at multiple school events, fundraisers, and MSG Varsity. She is also involved in student council events such as Homecoming, Battle of the Classes and Mr. Howell High School. Marisa also enjoys taking classes in New York City at Broadway Dance Center, Steps, Alvin Alley, and Perry Dance.

Although maintaining a challenging academic schedule with mostly Honors and Advanced Placement classes, Marisa has earned honor roll and high honor roll awards and ranks in the top 3% of her Senior Class at Howell High School. She was accepted into the National Honor Society, and as such, tutors underclassmen in biology, algebra, and Spanish. To further her education, Marisa attended Georgetown University last summer. Upon graduation, Marisa will be attending Bucknell University in the fall where she will be majoring in biology. She has also been accepted into Bucknell’s dance program and was awarded a dance merit scholarship and will minor in dance. In the future, Marisa hopes to continue onto law school.

Marisa’s dance training has provided many new opportunities such as performing in the Performing Arts Ensemble’s rendition of The Nutcracker Ballet. She was also a back up dancer for a local pop singer and performed at Relay for Life, Six Flags Great Adventure, Freehold Idol, NJ News 12, and on a Royal Caribbean Cruise. She will also appear in an upcoming episode of NBC’s new TV show Smash.

Marisa is actively involved in community service. She really enjoys helping children with special needs and has volunteered with various organizations in such roles as camp counselor, carnival face painter, and arts & crafts coordinator. She is a member of the American Red Cross Youth Council and Care Club. She volunteers in various fundraisers for cancer, such as Cycle For Survival and has donated her hair three times to Locks Of Love. This will be her fourth year participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life and is excited about being team captain this year. Marisa also enjoys other activities including drawing, painting, baking, and scuba diving. She hopes to continue these activities as well as try new experiences in college.

Colts Neck Dance has played such an important part in Marisa’s life. She cannot thank the kind-hearted staff enough for their countless hours of hard work. She has been very blessed to be surrounded by such an inspiring group of talented instructors. She is deeply saddened to be leaving the great friends she has made along the way but she cannot wait to come back to her Colts Neck Dance family and support them in their annual recitals and competitions. She is also thankful for the incredible amount of support she receives from her parents and twin brother Michael. Confucius once said that “wherever you go, go with all your heart”. Marisa plans on doing that by spreading her love and passion for dance wherever life takes her.
